With a long history of dental gum problem, I have not been a good patient by missing regular dental cleanings for about a year. The very efficient and gracious hygenist right away examined and probed the "pocket". In layman's term, this area has always commanded a probed measurement of 7 and has had repeated treatments. The longer than normal poking around was done in silence, more probing and longer silence and ..... off came her mask and outpopped the question: "What have you been doing?". Probed measurements of 3 & 4 were the worst readings - after one year.
"There is some reasonably good data to suggest flavonoids in tea inhibit growth of bacteria in the oral cavity, inhibit enzymes that are responsible for the formation of plague and improve microflora of the oral cavity." said D. Balentine, Director of Nutrition Sciences for Lipton/Unilever.
So what's all this mean to you? Unless you enjoy paying to sit in a dentist's chair, tea might help your wallet and lessen dental pain.
